In recent months, a growing number of YouTube channels have begun posting videos that use artificial intelligence (AI) to imitate the voice of Fr. Chad Ripperger. These videos often present themselves as authentic, even though Fr. Ripperger never recorded or said the things being attributed to him.

This is a serious problem, both morally and practically. It misleads viewers, spreads confusion, and falsely places words in the mouth of a Catholic priest without his consent.

What Is Happening?

Some channels are:

• Using AI-generated voice cloning to sound like Fr. Ripperger
• Dubbing AI audio over stock footage or unrelated videos
• Presenting speculative, sensational, or outright false statements
• Giving the impression that the content is official or authentic

These videos are not Fr. Ripperger, even if the voice sounds convincing.

Why This Is a Problem

• False attribution: Saying someone said something when they did not is deceptive.
• Scandal and confusion: Viewers may believe teachings or opinions that Fr. Ripperger does not hold.
• Abuse of technology: AI is being used to manipulate trust and authority.
• Harm to reputation: This can damage a priest’s credibility and mislead souls.

AI voice cloning does not make something legitimate, truthful, or authorized.

How You Can Help Stop This

YouTube does not always act automatically — reports from viewers matter. Here’s what you can do:

✅ 1. Report Individual Videos

1. Click the three dots (⋮) under the video
2. Click Report
3. Choose “Misleading or scam”
4. Select Impersonation or Deceptive content
5. In the description box, explain clearly:

“This video uses AI-generated audio to imitate Fr. Chad Ripperger and falsely attributes statements to him that he never made. This is deceptive and misleading.”

✅ 2. Report Entire Channels (Much Easier)

If a whole channel is dedicated to this:

1. Go to the channel’s About tab
2. Click the flag icon
3. Select Report user
4. Choose Impersonation

This option still exists at the channel level and is very important.

📝 What to say (copy/paste)

YouTube reviewers respond better to clear language. You can paste something like this:

“This content uses AI-generated audio to imitate Fr. Chad Ripperger and attributes statements to him that he never said. The video/channel misleads viewers into believing the content is authentic. This constitutes impersonation and deceptive manipulated media.”

✅ 3. Use YouTube’s Formal Impersonation Form (Recommended)

This is separate from the normal report button and often more effective:

Use this form if:

• A channel claims or implies it is Fr. Ripperger
• AI voice is used to make him “speak”
• Viewers are likely to believe it is authentic

You do not need to be Fr. Ripperger to submit this.

What Not to Do

• ❌ Do not share fake videos, even to criticize them (this boosts their reach)

How to Spot Authentic Content

• Verify videos through official or well-known Catholic sources
• Be cautious of:
  • Sensational titles
  • New or anonymous channels
  • No citation of original talks or dates
• When in doubt, assume it is not authentic

A Final Word

Using AI to put words into someone else’s mouth is not harmless. It is deceptive and unjust, especially when it exploits the trust people place in priests and teachers of the Faith.
