CHAPTER VII.
Of Penance to be imposed on the Brethren,
If any Brother, by the instigation of the enemy, sin mortally in any of those sins which the Brothers are ordered to refer to the Provincial Ministers, the said Brother is bound to have recourse to these Superiors as quickly as possible, and without delay. And if the said Ministers be priests, they shall mercifully enjoin him penance ; but if they be not priests, they shall cause it to be enjoined him by others who are priests of the Order, as in the sight of God shall seem to them most expedient. And they shall take care not to be angry or troubled at the sins of anyone, for anger and trouble hinder charity in themselves and others.
